We are hiring: ICT Systems Administrator

JOB PRIMARY PURPOSE

The primary purpose of the job is to support the deployment and management of the merSETA cloud server dedicated to innovation software (unique coding), its deployment and operational support which will includes:

 

•       Ensuring that student information and their courses are imported correctly from the SDP Student Information Systems (ITS) into Canvas

•       Managing other third-party solutions affiliated with Canvas and implement/support their LTI integrations.

•       Providing second tier support for Technical Mentors and students having issues with the LMS.

•       Monitoring the internal ticketing system for LMS-related issues and address issues appropriately.

•     Performing regular backup operations appropriate for data protection, disaster recovery and failover procedures.

 

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBLITIES

Serving the primary purpose of the job will include the following responsibilities:

•       Maintenance, configuration/integration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization.

•       Installation and upgrade of computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.

•       Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.

•       Provision of documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.

•       Leading desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.

•       Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION(S)

·        ICT related qualification at the NQF level 6 or above

·        Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

•       Systems Administration experience

•       2 years’ experience in computer operating systems and/or related 

•       Linux experience

•       Cloud experience

•       Understanding of deployment of complex computer software such as Canvas

•       Experience with scripting and automation tools

•       Experience in the use and management of open-source Canvas will be an advantage

•       Source code system management will be an advantage

 OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS 

 ·       Driver’s license and own vehicle

 ·       Must have a South African ID or a valid work permit

 ·       Will be employed by JET Education Services but will be based at the merSETA offices in Parktown, Johannesburg

·        Requires work after hours from time to time

 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

1.     Customers

1.1)           Customer Relations

•       Support all relevant stakeholders using the ICT4APP and Canvas.

•       Liaise with developers, designers, and partner systems administrators with regards to identifying or   development of new features.

•       Follow emerging technologies and continually enhance the system.

•       Build collaborative relationships with CSIR, merSETA ICT and SARETEC/CPUT to effectively resolve snags.

1.2)           Knowledge network development

·        Develop and strengthen relations with external and internal experts in the occupational skills space, relating to the SPVT qualification.

1.3)           Application knowledge

·        Ensure detailed knowledge acquisition around the purpose and vision of the ICT4APP and its ecosystem partners

2.1)           Self-Development

·        Identify and stay abreast systems innovation related practice; participate in relevant networks to identify effective practice and remain up to date with current thinking and trends.

•       Cultivate a culture of learning and knowledge sharing amongst project partners.

 

This is a mid-level position and it is a full time role. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a deployment assessment on-site.

Total annual cost to company between to R360 000 - R520 000 (inclusive of all taxes) depending on experience level.
