JET RESEARCH INTERN (ECD)

Location: Johannesburg

The intern will be placed in the implementation division but may work on projects that span across divisions (research, monitoring and evaluation, and implementation). The intern will report to the ECD research officer.

The intern will be appointed on a fixed-term contract that will run for one year and be subject to renewal.

Responsibilities of the position:

• Assist the Implementation unit with mostly ECD and Grade R project related activities.

• Assists with writing proposals and concept notes.

• Assist with project planning and management; and compiling literature reviews

• Keep project managers updated on a regular basis as required.

• The job will require the intern to get involved in project related activities such as: report writing, administrative

  tasks, quantitative and qualitative data gathering (design study, adapt and develop data gathering instruments,

  undertake pilot study, fieldwork) and analysis (including interpretation of results), instrument development, and

  any other research related project activities.

Knowledge, skills and attributes required:

• Honours degree in social sciences

• Good understanding of different research methods

• Attention to detail.

• Research experience is an advantage.

• An interest and passion for research and education issues.

• Excellent reading, writing and communication skills.

• Confidentiality- The intern will work with sensitive information which must be treated as confidential.

• Fluency in any African languages is an advantage

• Time management skills.

• Willingness to work overtime as and when project demands require it, within reason.

• A valid drivers’ license, ability to drive a manual motor vehicle and willingness to travel.
