Location: Johannesburg (with agreed levels of time to be spent at DHET, DBE and SACE. Home-based options with online meeting and collaboration tools are in place.)
The role of the incumbent is to provide advocacy and technical support to the DBE/DHET/SACE to promote an enabling environment for effective, efficient and widely-used alternative teacher education pathways (ATEPs). The candidate will report to the JET Specialist Manager and has no subordinates. This is a contract appointment for a 50% monthly level of effort, and for a period of six months. The contract may be extended by mutual agreement for a more extended period.
Job Specifications
Formal education:
• Master’s Degree in education, social science, development or related fields, or equivalent
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years project management or coordination experience, including strategic leadership, project planning, monitoring, reporting and advocacy
• Minimum of 3 years research experience including qualitative and quantitative methods, data capturing and presenting results (written and other formats)
• Experience working with or in government in the field of education preferred
• Teaching experience preferred
Knowledge of the South African education sector and systems, initial teacher education and/or teacher internships and all legislation pertaining directly/indirectly to education qualifications

Advocacy (25%)
• Prepare and deliver presentations on TICZA or related to TICZA goals to stakeholders including government officials (national/provincial/district), higher education institutions, internship implementers
• Coordinate presentations at conferences or other events
• Develop of knowledge products including policy briefs, blog entries, articles, social media postings, etc.
Research Support (15%)
• Support the development of research methodologies
• Lead the design of research instruments (such as surveys, interview protocols, etc.)
• Conduct research with government officials and other stakeholders to answer questions such as: What are the inhibiting factors for ATEPs? How can these be overcome? etc.
• Data collection, analysis and reporting
• Ensure that the correct procedures, policies and protocols are implemented during and after research
TICZA Project Support to DBE/DHET/SACE (40%)
• Develop and promote strategies for an enabling environment for ATEPs as part of cross-departmental and project teams
• Support government institutions with technical advice and as a human resource to unblock or enable the decided strategies
• Develop and maintain a database for student teacher interns and implementing organisations
• Monitor progress towards goals: Regularly collect information and report on key indicators as outlined in an approved monitoring and evaluation framework
• Support TICZA Steering Committee representatives at DBE/DHET/SACE to monitor and report on adoption and implementation within their institutions through the compilation and dissemination of regular reports
• Join (or where necessary, form) relevant teams within the government departments
• Collaborate with officials and the TICZA project team to develop TICZA-related proposals, plans, memos and/or policies for the DBE/DHET/SACE
TICZA development and reporting (15%)
• Submit monthly and quarterly progress reports within research project requirements
• Contribute to regular project meetings and planning events
• Prepare deliverables for and attend Steering Committee meetings
• Develop proposals, work plans and budgets for TICZA
• Assist to compile annual reports
General Administration (5%)
• Assist with general office administration (coordination, logistics, etc.)
• Set up and maintain monitoring/filing systems (Computerised and Manual)

Salary: R25 000.00 CTC - R35 000.00 CTC per month
